Carleton-Vikings-Giants-Cubs Game

We hosted a Favrelous Carleton-Giants-Vikings party in our clubhouse this past weekend! We watched the Vikings beat up on the 49ers with a last second (actually 2 second) touchdown from Brett Favre before heading over to the Giants-Cubs game. Matt Cain beat up on the Cubs for a 5-1 win. It was super hot and a great day overall!!

One way to see what's on the other side of a wall...

is to put your head through it. Although, it isn't my top choice or even in the top 10! Picture taken yesterday at Zeke's bar in SF.

Ridiculous Item of the Week

The moustache bandana!! The Lone Ranger should've used it!

Change Bernanke Drugs?

Why does this guy look so happy when so many people are unemployed? Well, this article by Greg Palast might explain a few things!! I really hope they are able to turn America's economy around ASAP!!

Vodka Bottle at City Hall

On my way to a Task Force meeting tonight, I thought about getting a quick drink of water. However, this empty bottle of vodka prevented me from quenching my thirst. I wonder which supervisor left it there! :)

Enzyme Delivered Through BBB

Very cool paper from Beverly Davidson's lab at the University of Iowa on the delivery of proteins that pass through the BBB into the brain. These proteins could be used to treat lysosomal storage diseases (e.g. Gaucher disease).

NK-kB Importance in RA and Osteoporosis

This paper describes the involvement of the NK-kB p100 protein in the inhibition of bone loss in mice.

This Bird's Name...

should be KL! Had a great time at the Washbag last night with 4 of the GFOGs!

Sendak's Work at the CJM

The Maurice Sendak exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum was pretty cool. Went there with KL, LG, and my mom on Sunday. Man, that guy was prolific! I had no idea!

Birthday Boat Cruise on 9/19

We took a nice little 3.5 hour boat cruise on the Fume Blanc (not Cabernet Savignon) out of Alameda for MH's birthday with 7 other people including my mom. The cruise went all the way to Alcatraz, Angel Island, and back while dancing to some crazy 80's music. We met alot of interesting people including Ray Gunz and some crazy girls that were there for a 50th birthday party. Mom had a great time and afterwards we went to DA (who paid for the first round!!!) and AR's for the afterparty. Then Mars bar for the after-after party. I should probably make plans to go out on the bay again next weekend to make it 3 weeks in a row!!

Meeting of the Minds

Bigger than Clinton and Yeltsin only nobody is drunk or partying in the White House!!

Speedboat Tour of the Bay on 9/12

We rented a speedboat "Lucky 13" for a bachelor party and I thought it rocked!! Nothing like a shot of jager to get the party started. We stopped off at Scott's in Alameda, Angel Island, and, of course, Sam's in Tiburon. Our captain was full of good information about the bay. We passed by the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz before it was too cold and then went back to The Ramp. Then it was off to Il Fornaio for dinner and North Beach for some extracurricular activities ending at 199 New Montgomery for a few hours! Good times!

Click Chemistry

Very nice relatively short review on Click Chemistry and its role in early drug discovery.

Enhancement of Human Hepatocytes

In this paper, the authors describe a method that only involves oxygen for enhancing the function of primary hepatocytes. It turns out that the serum used to supplement plating of hepatocytes actually decreases overall function and viability time.

Granny Goes to Mars

This article proposes an interesting job opportunity for grandma - going to Mars!

War Dances

This article is a very interesting (kinda sad) story of one Indian man's response to and experience with hearing loss.

The Dancer Upstairs

Loved this movie (even though the ending was predictable)!

Where the Wild Things Are

I can't wait for this movie - especially after reading this story about Spike Jonze's efforts to finally get it made! I loved the book!

Mechanism of Placebo-induced Pain Control

This article lays out a very nice explanation of the placebo effect.

Anti-Mosquito Chemicals

This article proposes an alternative mechanism and chemicals for warding off mosquitoes.

Placebo Effect

I thought this wired article was a very nice compilation of the drugs in development or on the market that have run up against placebo effect.

Great Dinner Party!

We went to MH's place for a great dinner party on Saturday night! In my opinion, any dinner party is going to be great when the appetizer is mini-burgers! This course was followed up with 3 cheese mac and cheese, salad, pot roast, chicken, green beans and mushrooms, and a lemon tart! It's the next morning and I'm still full!

Vodka Used in Pie Recipe

I think Rick Malaspina is actually MH!!

Hammerhead

KL's new favorite action figure/superhero!!

Sliders Burgers on Polk Street

We had lunch at this Do It Yourself Burger place yesterday. Actually, the do it yourself part was you just added all the condiments yourself. You didn't actually have to cook the burger too. It was a pretty decent amount of food for lunch and neither of us finished it. The burger and fries tasted good too! Next time we'll split an order for $9!

Why is "Indian River" brown?

We were at the paint store yesterday and I noticed one color swatch was called "Indian River." Great, but it's BROWN. What?!?

Funny Ad for Litter

KL and I ran across this ad for kitty litter yesterday and thought it was pretty damn funny looking!

Interesting Outfits

Maybe we'll get these for Eggers' Halloween/40th birthday party!

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie coming out next week. Mr. T is in it (or at least one of the voices)!
