Marriage Fundraiser
Documentary Sunday
Since KL is off at Feng Shui class I have the weekend to catch up on all the stuff she probably won't want to watch. First up was a ton of WWE and TNA and the new season of Spartacus that is ridiculously bloody and violent. Then, some documentaries including Donald Crowhurst's attempt at sailing around the world (Deep Water), Tyson (Tyson), people that have been hit by Lightning (Act of God), and marijuana (Grass). The Tyson film was very well done. Loved it.
Lunch at 3rd and Folsom
MH and I had a sweet long lasting lunch at a local Indian restaurant. I say long lasting because it took about 15 minutes for them to take our order and that was just a foreshadowing of how the rest of the meal would go. They had about 4 people working the restaurant and 2 of them appeared to just be standing around. And, they didn't really like my idea of getting a discount for having to open our bottle of wine, so I had to give one worked a friendly little stare down. The wait gave us enough time to memorize the menu and check out all the different drinks like Coco-Cola and Honest Ade. However, it was worth the wait as the food is always fantastic at this place - like their drink it was a big Thumbs Up!

KL's Birthday and Super Bowl Party
We had a nice contingent of people over for KL's birthday and for a Super Bowl party. Every couple brought at least a dish and a bottle or 2 of spirits and we all watched the Saints beat on the Colts. The pulled pork sandwiches from Sneaky's BBQ EP's mac and cheese, KS's spicy pecan slaw, DA's stuffed mushrooms, LL's veggie chili, LB and LK's hummus, and HK and MH's cupcakes were all great! Great party!!
Inuk Man
Very cool story published today about a man named Inuk. An international team of 53 scientists has rebuilt the genome of an ancient human for the first time. The man was a Palaeo-Eskimo who lived about 4,000 years ago on the western coast of Greenland. The group analyzed more than 350,000 SNPs.

Year of the Metal Tiger
We went to a lecture/reading on the year of the Metal Tiger by one of KL's Feng Shui instructors over in Berkeley. A lot of his references dealt with analogies to the Discovery Channel and to the personality of the Tiger. This year important concepts we should try to remember include unpredictability, daring, integrity, big is out (government), and small is in (farmer's market). Also, remember that a tiger (although very powerful) has no immune system, so it can be taken out by the smallest being (bacteria). The female tiger protects their young, but after their birth, try to kill the males and the males return to try to kill the young - they view them as competition. The coasts are in danger, while those int he mountains and inland are auspicious. He had lots of good little stories and analogies and went through the entire calendar. We'll have to check back in December to see how good the predictions were!
