I thought the name of this group was a joke before reading this article in the NY Times about how Asian kelp is starting to invade the SF Bay. Apparently, the kelp hitchhikes it's way here on ships that are trasporting goods into the Oakland harbor. These invaders apparently start to outcompete the native species and trying to prevent it from happening costs the US $9 billion/year! OUCH! There is also an agency called the United States Federal Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force. Say THAT ten times real fast!
