According to this recent article in Scientific American, the domesticated housecat originated in the Middle East and were important members of the home as early as 9500 years ago. They base their conclusions on genetic and archaeoligical data. So, Franky and Indy's ancestors took the path shown in the map to the left in order to arrive in their cozy home in SF. The Travels of Franky and Indy's Ancestors
