Efficient Energy Transmission By Conjugated Polymers
This discovery is pretty cool as quantum mechanism transfer of energy was thought to occur only at low temperatures and in more complex systems than the polymers used here. Prior to this work, random hopping was used to explain the transfer of energy in polymers at room temperature and that much of the energy was lost. This work shows that energy can be tranferred along the chemical bonds of these conjugated polymers and not through space. This finding could lead to different classes of solar cells and allow for a more efficient transfer of energy using these polymers.
