Ever wonder where that seagull has been?
Well, this team of British researchers tracked a seabird called the Manx Shearwater during their migration from the UK to South America and back. They were able to track them using electronic monitoring tags and GPS technology. These birds nest in remote locations and spend most of their time at sea, so not much was know about their lifestyles. Interestingly, they made a stopover of a least 2 weeks on their migration to refuel and they travel further south than previously thought. This research is important as the migratory patterns of seabirds is expected to be influenced by the changing environment and health of the oceans. Also, my buddies MB and AR will finally know where their meals come from!!
