Vitamin D has been know to impact bone and muscle health, but this new study suggests that it also plays a role in developing muscle power and force in young girls. They used a technique called jumping mechanography to measure the amount of muscle power and force from a group of young girls (ages 12-14). If a girl is deficient in Vitamin D, the muscles required for jumping are known to be affected (but they might not exhibit visible symptoms of deficiency). The researchers found that the girls with lowers levels of Vitamin D scored worse in the test.
